Oh Me, Oh My, What Have I Gotten Myself Into . . .

I sat down this evening and it took me over 2 hours to piece four quarter rings for the Double Wedding Ring Quilt.

And that was just putting the center melon and 2 end triangles together. The rest were already pieced.

I'm not used to be such a slow poke. If any of you that have made double wedding ring quilts before have any suggestions to help this go more quickly, please tell me.

I did get some fabric for the pieced blocks for my "Tree Time" quilt. It is pretty close to what I envisioned. I was going to add a picture but I took it with artificial lighting and the colors are not right. So I'll see if I can remember to take one during natural day light tomorrow.

My plans were to work on the DWR all day tomorrow but, I definitely know that I cannot possibly sit and work on it all day. A few hours at a time is my max.  So, I'm just going to take the "I'll work on what I feel like working on approach" in between DWR blocks.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!

  1. The DWR is going to be beautiful... and time consuming. Now you have me wanting to make one... lol. I have a plate with a DRW imprinted on it in pinks, deep blues and creams. I'd like to copy the colors and make a wall hanging.

You are such an instigator... I got my pattern today for the poinsettia wreath quilt!!

  2. I have never had the nerve to start a DWR....but it is definitely one of my favorites. And my mom made several of them...don't know why I am such a coward!

  3. Your DWR is absolutely stunning. What do you plan to use as background?
My name is Jan but I'm using Anonymous as I don't have a blog or a google account.

  4. Jan, the background is going to be the same white print on print that is used in the center of the melon. I plan to add applique along the outside of the quilt like Janet at Quiltsalott. You can see it here.

I hope I have the energy to do that. I think her quilt is just stunning.

  5. I have made two DWR's both I hand pieced and hand quilted. One has applique flowers all around the quilt for a border. I did not rush it, I just pieced in the evenings while watching tv. I have no hints to speed things up - sorry :) You will get it done

  6. Vivian, Jan again. Thank you so much for that information and the link too!! I have a link to Janet's Candied Hexagon Quilt, but didn't know about this one!! I'm hoping to do the Hexagon one on our next big trip. As I am technically a "Janet" too, maybe I'll finally also try the DWR.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. Jan
