I'm Blushing

I decided to give Becca her birthday quilt on Sunday when they were at the house. I wasn't sure if I would see her again before her birthday.

I took the quilt outside this morning trying to get some good pictures. But the wind was blowing so hard, it kept moving and flapping around.

The pattern is I'm Blushing by Natalia Bonner. A tutorial is on the Moda Bake Shop website. Natalia has a lot of free tutorials and now sales some of her patterns.

I tried to get some good pictures of the back, but that didn't work either.

Needless to say, Becca was thrilled with it. She is going to use it on the back of her off-white couch to keep the cat hair off of the couch. She promised to send a picture of it in use.

Design Wall Monday

Not much sewing went on this weekend. Saturday morning I decided that I needed to do some major cleaning. I started with the living/dining room and continued until I had all of the dust I could take.

I did get in a good mile walk. The day was beautiful.

That evening, I was able to get the rest of the applique pieces for the Tiger Lily Quilt cut out and the Seam-a-Seam attached. Then I remembered I needed to stitch the binding down on the last baby quilt I made. So I did that.  I have a wedding shower to go to today so I will take the baby quilt with me to give to the baby's grandmother and she can deliver it for me.

Sunday was a full day but I did get started appliqueing the final blocks for the Tiger Lily Quilt.

I have redesigned this quilt about 4 times for various reasons. The last reason was because I didn't have enough of the orange fabric that you see at the top of the quilt. I am going to wait until I have the last three blocks appliqued, the center of the quilt sewn together, and the first two borders sewn on the quilt to decide for sure what the next few borders will look like.

Tiger Lily Quilt

The new design of Tiger Lily is up and going.  I decided the 9 patch blocks in between the tiger lily blocks were too busy--or something.

I have 5 block sets appliqued and am working on the 6th one. I need 9 all together.

I was moving along nicely last night when my machine started acting up. I am using a satin stitch and all of the sudden it started skipping stitches. I changed needles, re-threaded the machine numerous times, and finally--gave up.

I turned the machine off and hopefully when I return to it tonight, all will be well again. Sometimes I think the electronic mechanisms just get tired, like we do, and goes haywire until reset. Probably not! But that's my theory. I would hate to admit that it was human error.

Design Wall Monday

I was able to get the applique pieces laid out. Hopefully, tomorrow I will get part of them appliqued on.

I am at a stand still on the Tiger Lily Quilt. I purchased some black and white polka dot fabric but I don't like the way it looks. So I need to find some different black on black to use. Or I may just re-design the quilt and see if the black and white polka dot will work with a different design.

Friday Night Sew-In Results

I was able to sew for a good part of the day. I began with cutting out the stockings and trees for the Christmas quilt I am working on. I still need to choose fabric for the leaves and stars.

Then as I was looking for some scrap paper, I found the black fabric that I needed to finish piecing the back of the baby quilt. So I finished the backing and sandwiched the quilt.

I got most of the quilting completed. I am going to add a red binding and then see if I want to add more quilting. I'll post pictures when I finish it.

Does anyone know of a good cough relief product? I have been coughing and have chest congestion. What I have here is not doing the trick. So tomorrow, if it hasn't stopped, I'll go into town to get me something else. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It's Going to be a Long Day

I just remembered that the Friday Night Sew In is tomorrow night. There's still time to drop by Handmade by Heide to sign up.

This comes at a perfect time as we have Parent Teacher Conferences today which means staying at school until sometime after 6. After 13 years of teaching, conferences still wear me out. But . . .

We are off tomorrow and Monday for Winter Break. Yippee!!!! So, I can sew all day tomorrow if I want.

Have a great day.

Snow Day

So we did have a snow day today.

I waited until late this evening to take these pictures so part of the snow had already melted. The house is across the lake and on the ridge across from us.

Let's see. I finished the binding on Becca's birthday quilt. I forgot all about a label. Hopefully, I'll remember to do that before I give it to her. If not, she'll bring it back.

I worked some on the Tiger Lily applique blocks.

And I sewed the blocks together for the Christmas quilt I am working on. I also cut out the trees for the applique part. The quilt I am making was designed by Jeanne Large and Shelley Wicks and can be found in this book . . .

If you go to this link, you can scroll through the book and see all of the great projects.  I love the pillow below the quilt also. A lot of great projects in this book.

I bet it's back to work tomorrow.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting.
