Making Progress

I spent over 3 hours on the double wedding ring quilt yesterday evening. I am happy to say that I completed another half of a border. They all look the same. lol

Now I only have 1 and 1/2 to go. Doesn't sound like much does it?

My goal for tomorrow evening is to trace the pattern on the other half and get all of the applique pieces cut out and pinned on.

We'll see.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting.

Design Wall Monday

Unfortunately my sewing hit a standstill last Wednesday. I guess you could say life got in the way. Something came up here and something came up there.

Anyway, my double wedding ring quilt is still sitting in the same place on my machine.

I actually left it like this because I planned to get right back on it the next evening. That was 5 evenings ago. So hopefully this evening is it. I vow to leave school by 5 or 5:30 and have a quick dinner and then get busy in the sewing room.

Drop by Judy's for more inspiration.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting.

B-day Girl

We had a great afternoon with family. I forgot to get pictures, except for this lovely one, after her sister smashed her cupcake into her face.

Well, it's 8:30 and I just asked Larry if I was ever going to make it to the couch tonight. I think that is where I am headed.

Date Night A-Z

A few internet teacher friends gave me the idea to do date nights from A to Z. It sounds like a dating service doesn't it? Actually, you just plan date nights using each letter of the alphabet. I told Larry about it and we went on the "A" date last night.  (No limit is put on how often you go out or what you do.)

I had planned to go to the Alma Performing Arts Center but the idea is to do things that are low cost and where you can just spend time together. So I decided we would go to an Arkansas State Park for a picnic. We drove to the Mt. Magazine State Park, which is about 15 miles from where we live.

It was very hard getting this picture because I just held my arm out and took it myself. My daughter does this all of the time and gets great pictures of her and her friends. What's the deal?

We chose a spot with a fabulous view . . .

Spread out a quilt . . .

and dined on shrimp cocktail, turkey, cheese, fruit, bread and crackers. We also enjoyed a sparkling wine. It was a light meal but plenty filling. (Oops, the food is gone. I forgot to take a picture before we started.)

We then drove to the lodge and walked around and chatted with a few people.

Then we came home and sat down to watch a Netflix.  We watched Arctic  Freeze. It was surprisingly good and both of us enjoyed it.

Larry was in charge of the "B" date, but after driving through the campground, I decided I would take the letter "B" and let him plan a camping trip for the "C" date.  Anyone know of any fun, inexpensive things to do that start with the letter "B".  (I'm curious to see if we actually make it to the letter "Z" or if we fizzle out.)

Well today, we are having a birthday/swim party for my great niece. I think she is turning 9. A simple meal of chili dogs is planned. I'm getting lazy in my party planning and wanted something that was easy to prepare and easy to clean up.

I haven't been to the sewing room since last Tuesday evening. I hope to spend a lot of time there during the week coming up.

Have you done anything special for your spouse lately?  Maybe you want to join us and plan your own date nights.

WOW!!! (WIP Wednesday)

I've been so lax in blogging over the summer that I did not even realize that Ester was hosting WIP on Wednesday.

I have finished my second side and started on the third side. As you can see, it really wrinkles as I applique. I did find out (by mistake) that if I spray mist it and let it sit overnight the wrinkles go away and the crispness from the spray starch returns. So after I take a picture for this post, I'm going to mist it lightly to be ready to go again tomorrow evening.

If you haven't visited Ester's blog lately, she has another new BOM (Peaceful Pathways) that began in August. It features one of my favorite bible verses. But I pledge not to start another quilt until this wedding ring is completed. (I wonder how long that will last.)

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting.

Oficially Empty Nesters

Things are slow going on the the wedding ring quilt. But now I almost have two sides of the applique border completed. So I have made progress.

I only need a few more of the leaves to have this section completed. Then I will only have two sides left. They should go quicker because I will not have to do the corners. I may have to incorporate some different greens for the leaves because I am afraid I may run short of the batiks.

Well, both kids have officially moved out now.  It is going to be quiet and lonely in this big old house. But I am very proud of off my children have accomplished so far in their lives.

Found out a couple of weeks ago that I am anemic. Now I know why I haven't had any energy and haven't wanted to do anything all summer. The doc put me on iron pills and I have to say I was really worried about being sick on them. But so far, so good. I'm really going to try to eat more foods that are  high in iron to help get my levels back up there. Then hopefully, when I go back in four months I can get off of the iron pills.

Be sure to check out Design Wall Monday on Judy's blog.

What a chatty group

I have at school. I hope it was just first day excitement. I'm worn out.

Off to work on the wedding ring quilt for a bit. Then hope to find a good movie on netflix and probably fall asleep watching it.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting.

It's Time . . .

I'm not sure I ever posted on here that Craig and Becca were engaged. I really kept waiting for a picture of the ring to show but always forget to take one.

Anyway the wedding is set for October 1.  What once seemed so far away has quickly come upon us.  Today was the wedding shower held at Becca's home church in Subiaco. Her aunts did a wonderful job of hosting and the food was delicious.

They received many wonderful gifts. I know it is exciting for them to be able to toss out things that are old and worn and begin using the new gifts.

This quilt (I can't believe my camera picked this time to turn off so I missed a good picture) was made by Becca's granny.

My mom made them this quilt.

I'm still slowly working on the double wedding ring. Kelsey gets on to me every few days. She says I won't have it finished by Oct. 1. I told her I wasn't worried about that. It will be finished sooner or later.

Open house was held at our school today. I was excused to attend the shower. I know part of my student's parents but not all of them. But we will have parent-teacher conferences in about 4 1/2 weeks so I will be able to meet them them

School starts tomorrow. If it is a normal year, I will be hoarse before the week is over. After being at home all summer and not talking that much, the old vocal chords retaliate. lol

I found at last week that I am slightly anemic. I now realize that is probably why I have been so tired and have not had the drive to sew or anything else (except read) this summer. I am on iron pills now, so I hope I'll get my energy levels back and get busy.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!

Goodness . . .

I didn't realize I had been away for so long. Kelsey told me this morning that I was neglecting my blog.

Things have been busy here getting ready for school. Each year we have to pack everything up so they will move all of the furniture out and do the floors. If we do not clear out our shelves, they will not move them. Then the wax around them causes a nasty build up. The shelves then stick to the floor. If you want to move them, you are left with a nasty dirty wax build up spot and usually pull up some of the flooring.

So I've spent the last week and a half putting my room back together, making new materials, and deciding on a general theme. I do not do a lot of decorating other than the beginning of the year. I don't have bulletin boards to change every month either. I usually put my student's pictures in the hallway and change their work out every few weeks.  I put up poetry and short stories mostly.

Craig is all moved out now and he would probably appreciate updates so he knows what going on around here. Kelsey is moved back in for a couple of weeks until her apartment is ready. Then I'll really have empty nest syndrome.

My niece and her family have moved into our rent house so they will probably be hanging around from time to time.

This week will be busy as teacher days are beginning on Monday. And school starts next Monday. Then I'll get burned out on working on school stuff and get back to quilting.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!
