Hand Quilting

I finally made myself sit down and hand quilt on the Star Quilt the past two evenings. I really need to keep it up. I enjoy it after I make myself sit down and will quilt for hours and even hate stopping to go to bed. So why does it seem such a chore to sit down in the first place?

I am actually working on the last two blocks. Yippee! I still have some outer strips on the Irish Chain blocks do quilt. I don't enjoy quilting the hearts because there are so many curves and it seems to take me forever, so I skipped some of them to turn the quilt so they are horizontal to me instead of vertical. Make sense?

Then I have a wide border and plan to quilt it using a flower and vine template. But, I may change my mind and just do some straight stitching so I will get finished more quickly. But then again, it is the first quilt I have totally hand quilted myself and it is a very nice quilt. I am actually thinking about entering it into the county fair this year. So I really should use the template and make it look more elegant.

Well, enough rambling for today. Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting?

Yippee!!!

Late Saturday evening, I was able to get the rows to the double wedding ring top together. It is now a flimsy.

I have cut out a few flowers to lay out on the border to get a look at them. I know these are the simple style flowers I will use. They are kind of like a daisy and will have a black or yellow center circle added. I am planning to keep it simple. I may just leave them as floating daisies or I may add a cording for a vine.

It is definitely a work in progress.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!

E-book Review

I was asked to review a Fons and Porter Modern Quilts e-book.

I've never reviewed anything before so I thought I would give it a try. I looked at both the presentation of the e-book and the pattern directions.

The e-book has three quilt patterns in it. The directions to each quilt seemed easy to read and understand.

I loved the photo of the Baubles and Beads (the top quilt) in the bedroom and how pillows were made with matching fabrics. The photo showing how to put the quilt together was most helpful. I like how they put the finished quilt measurement right there on the first page. I do not like having to hunt around in magazines for the finished quilt sizes.

The second quilt (middle in the picture) was Rainbow Rhythm Quilt.  I like how it had a closeup of the quilting. I find that helpful when looking for ideas on how to quilt. They had a Diagram that was most helpful but seemed a little blurry and hard to read. Not sure if it is my computer or perhaps the gray text font that was used.

Loved the photos for Lemon Squeezy. It is a quilt as you go quilt. I read the directions very carefully to be sure I understood them. They were well written and can easily be followed.

All in all, I enjoyed the e-book and will probably make at least one of the quilts.
