I had plans to use batiks for the applique on the Double Wedding Ring Quilt. I have a few pieces laid out and need your opinions.
So what do you think. Will there be too much contrast with the batiks? Should I use the fabrics that I used in the rest of the quilt for the applique? (All of the fabric in the quilt are florals.)
Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!
I think the batiks will be lovely and a nice compliment to the florals. That is going to be a beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteI think the batiks you have chosen really bring out the colors in the wedding ring. Very very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love the flower batik, and most of the leaves. They work extremely well with your fabrics. There is that one bright green that may be slightly 'off', or it may be just the spark of color that brings the quilt to life-would need to see a larger section of the quilt. Either way, the quilt will be lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh my, keep doin what you're doing because it is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the batiks. The applique you have laid out so far is beautiful. It picks up the colours in the quilt and compliments it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love the batiks!
ReplyDeleteThose batiks are adding beauty to that lovely ! Is this your own design or is there a pattern somewhere I could find? Your work is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like the batiks, too, but YOU are the person whose opinion matters most.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the contrast we're seeing in that photo of a small section of the quilt is because the batiks have darker values than those in the floral prints? You could try some lighter batiks (same value as the florals) and see if you like the look better without as much value contrast.
I think that will be great looking applique - it is looking good to me.

Beautimous!!!!! I just love mixing floral prints and batiks! They look great!
ReplyDeleteI love batiks (am making an indian orange peel all batik) but I generally wouldn't use new fabrics in the border that aren't in the main design of the quilt...I would use the florals and continue with that theme.
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion :)
I'm going against the majority here. I think your batik flowers are gorgeous and would look lovely on their own quilt, but for the DWR quilt I think they are slightly too strong for the rest of the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI think they are pretty, but a little dark. It could just be my laptop . The only way to really tell is do a corner(place it, not sewn yet) and a bit down each side and stand back and see. I think maybe some of the lighter green and goldish might be needed. Is this the DWR from Judy Niemeyer/
ReplyDeleteAnonymous Jan here again - no blog. I think the colours are too strong for the rest of the fabrics used. Maybe turn some of them over (?) or replace a few with some more in the value tone of the other fabrics. But you are the one who has to love it!!! Jan
