My children are both grown and many evenings I am home alone because Larry works 24 hour shifts and yet, for some reason I don't feel like I get anything accomplished in small blocks of time. Case in point--tonight and last night. I spent a few hours each night in the sewing room and thought, "what have I accomplished."
Both evenings I spent working with the tension on my Janome 1600P DB. At first the top thread showed through on the bottom. Then the bobbin thread showed through on the top. So I worked and worked with it and finally this evening, I can get it to sew correctly with all threads except variegated. (Come to think of it, I started out with variegated when I found out my tensions was off.) I guess I went full circle. So I have decided for now I don't really need to use that variegated thread.
I have also never used a stencil for a quilt pattern before and practiced following one tonight while adjusting the tension. So I guess I did accomplish something. Just not a lot to show for it.
Tomorrow at 3 p.m., spring break begins. Yeah. I hope I can get a lot accomplished during the next week. We plan to camp a few days. The good thing is I have plenty of space to sew since the kids will not be coming. Well, I guess not. I haven't asked them.

The bad thing is we don't have internet capabilities at the park. I always feel kind of cut off from the world. But I love the peace and quiet. Especially, if it is sunny and warm and I can sit outside and read a book or sew. I have been know to cut out quilts on the picnic tables. Kind of uncomfortable, but do-able. I have even set up my sewing machine out under the trees and sewed. It is a great life that always comes to an end to soon.

Vivian, I'd be really interested in knowing how you set-up to sew in your RV. Have you been doing it for a while? I'm still trying to get the hang of it, and find a place for things. Luckily, at the campground where we are parked, there's a large pavilion with lots of picnic tables I can push together, if I need to! :) Enjoy your spring break!

ReplyDeleteI really don't like it when I don't have much to "show" for all of the hard work, practice, tweaking and planning for quilting. The stencil looks good. Have a great spring break.
ReplyDeletehave a fun camping trip for a couple days. I know what you mean about quilting and camping although I do not bring a sewing machine and do hand work. Even though I am not a working person and stay at home I do not quilt and sew all day. I tend to only sew in the daytime hours for an hour here or there and then again in the evening. Sometimes that changes but I never sew all day long. I'm up hopping around and doing one thing and then another.

OH, sewing in an RV! My whole life for 4 years, LOL. Get yourself a SewEzi table, it's the best invention ever for that! They fold up nicely and work great.

The best part about sewing in an RV is all the windows. Oh to have that kind of light at home!

Vivian, your post cracked me up - somedays are like that for me too. I spend time in the sewing room and turn around to see what I got accomplished and there's nothing to show for it.
ReplyDeleteLike yesterday morning, I sat and watched a quilting DVD for an hour - learned alot but nothing physical to show for time spent. LOL
I cannot agree more with CJ on LIGHT in the RVs, it's awesome. We now only have a fifth wheel and the light still is wonderful in it. I take my sewing machine every time we take a road trip. You know how it is - have to get a "fix" in. LOL
