What do you do for 5 days without electricity?

Well, we played card games and scrabble. I had purchased a new card game, Yatzee, a couple of weeks ago. So, we sat down and figured out how to play it. Not sure if I like it or not.

One evening, we played Phase 10. I do enjoy playing that game.

And a couple of evenings, we played Scrabble.

So, we kept busy. Larry went to bed really early each night. (We had carried our mattress to the den where it was warm.) So, I read a lot on my kindle. We charged our cell phones in the vehicles the first night and then using the generator when plugging in the refrigerator on the other days.

We actually watched about an hour of TV Sunday evening so I could see what the weather was doing.

I am so thankful we had an alternative heat source and running water. I'm not going to say I didn't miss the internet, because I sure did. But, it would have been so much worse if we didn't have water.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!

  1. Going without water has to be the hardest. I live in Louisiana and during one of the really bad hurricanes, we were without electricity for a week. We had a generator so we were able to wash clothes and keep the refrigerator and freezer going some of the time. At night all 5 of us slept in our room and we used a generator to run a small window unit. We cooked on Coleman stoves and our grill. We hung our clothes over the porch railings. We didn't have a lot of problems, since we had the generator, but if we wouldn't have had water, I don't know what we would have done. We heated water outside and brought it inside to take baths and do the dishes. In a way, it was fun for a while and then got tiresome.

  2. I'm glad our generator runs more - but if we had been out of electricity for the night too we might have ended up dragging the mattress in the living room too -

  3. How fortunate you had a generator. We lost power for 7 days back in 2006 (terrible ice storm). We didn't have a generator, and there wasn't one to be found. Thankfully friends let us stay with them for the 7 days.
