"What in the world was I doing when I made that?"
That was my thought tonight as I sat down this evening to do some more quilting on the Tree Time quilt. My intentions were to start quilting the pieced blocks but my mind went blank on what to quilt in them. So I decided to attack the borders.
Now this is the second quilt I have used this border on and I had forgotten how puffy the white pieces in the borders were. I was planning to do some straight line quilting in that area, like I did in the blue and black pieces. But I ended up with a puckered mess. So I took it back out. Thank goodness I decided that after only doing one block.
The only other thing I could think of doing that would fill in the puffiness instead of making pleats was meandering. So that is what I did. I'm not crazy about it but hopefully as I quilt in the border strips, everything will blend in and it will grow on me.
If you look closely, you will see the blue border is puffy also. Therefore the statement, "What in the world was I doing when I made that?"

ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. Because your blog comes to me in black, it was hard to see all the details, but know this, the original women who quilted didn't make them perfect either.

Vivian, I think this looks great! I like the look of the straight lines in the black and the blue, and then the meandering in the white. I like puffiness in my quilts, too. Very much so! :)
ReplyDeleteI think we all end up with puffy borders sometimes. Sometimes after I make a top and lay it out I can tell it will be puffy and if I feel like it I will re-do the areas - but sometimes because I have the large 3 roller frame I can just pull it tight enough and quilt it out - of course it won't be square when it is finished but if it is for me - who cares.
