Design Wall Monday

Well, I didn't get the baby quilt finished because I ran out of the blue thread I was using to applique the letters. I still need the baby's last name appliqued.

Hopefully, when I go to Fort Smith to see "Hunger Games" this week, I will be able to find some to match.

The other quilt on the design wall is the Fat Quarter Star Quilt a Long.

I am all caught up and have decided (I think) that I am going to use a wide sashing and border and that's it. I saw one that was finished with a 2 or 3 inch white sashing and then just a narrow border. It looks so fresh and that is the look I am wanting.

Only I need it a little bigger, thus the wider sashing. I want to use it over my comforter on my king size bed. So, it just needs to be large enough to cover the top of my bed.

We Walk by Faith

At last, it is finished.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!

Hard at Work

You would think since it is Spring Break I would have plenty of time to post. But, here it is Thursday already and I feel like I haven't accomplished anything.

Monday was spent in Little Rock at the doctor's office. We left the house early enough to do some window shopping. We stopped by Pottery Barn. I love the stuff in there but it hurts to look at it -- if you know what I mean.

Then we wondered around the Williams Sonoma store and dreamed. Of course, not being much of a cook, I didn't even know what some of the gadgets were used for. But we saw a few things that we said, "One of these days".

On Tuesday and Wednesday, I got most of the quilting on Tiger Lily completed. I started to do some small stippling in the tiger lily blocks. I decided that it made the quilt too stiff and I was getting some puckering of the fabric. I think because of all of the spray starch used when I appliqued. (I may have to rethink using the spray starch method to applique.) So now I am taking the quilting out of that spot. I am glad it was only a partial block. The stitches are very small and I am having a hard time getting them out.

I have started what I hope to be the last baby quilt for awhile. I am using a Moda Bake Shop pattern called Baby Life by V and Co. Of course, I am personalizing it with the baby's name and stats.

My goal is to get both of these quilts completed before I go back to school next Monday. Then, I don't have any more deadline quilts. That I know of. lol

Well, the sun is shining this morning--after two days of nothing but rain. So, I hope to spend a little time enjoying the sunshine--whether reading a good book or working in the yard.

Edited to add:  The sunshine only lasted an hour or so and then rain again. Here it is Friday evening and I wrote this post on Thursday morning. But . . . I forgot to publish it. lol

Design Wall Monday

I have begun quilting on the "Walk by Faith" quilt. It is about 1/2 completed.

I have the borders sewn on all of the Fat Quarter Star BOM blocks.

It is Spring Break this week. And that feels good.

I have a doctor appointment today. Over a two hour drive--one way. So the day will be gone quickly.

Walk by Faith -- A name change

I began designing the Tiger Lily quilt way before Christmas. This is the first EQ drawing. The one I decided I was going to make.

After I finished the applique blocks, I cut out one 9 patch and decided it would be much "too busy" for the look I was trying to achieve. The 9 patch blocks were fighting with the applique blocks for attention. lol

So I decided to use plain blocks.

I like the look much better.

I still added the same applique scallop border but decided I needed extra borders to make the quilt larger. Thus the 3 outside borders.

Then the creative juices started to flow and I remembered that Kendra, my niece, had a tattoo on her foot that says "Walk by Faith". I looked up the bible quote and added it to each border.

So, I feel that I  . . .

added a part of Kendra to the quilt and offered the couple a few "words of wisdom" to live by. I also decided to rename the quilt "Walk by Faith".

Blogger Woes

Do any of you that use blogger know how I can get my pictures to enlarge when you click on them to view?

I really love to see the large photos when you click on the pictures but cannot figure out how to get them to enlarge.

Anyone know of a secret?

Edited:  Craig helped me figure it out. The ones that are not enlarging are sent from my i-phone. I sent them the smallest size possible so they will not enlarge larger than the original photo.  Thanks, Craig.

It's a Flimsy!!!

Yippee! I was able to get the borders for the Tiger Lily Quilt finished.  And sewed on.

I can't decide if I want to add a once inch orange border and then do the binding in the black polka dot. Or not add the narrow orange border and use orange for the binding.

Do you think I need to add the narrow orange border so the words are not so close to the edge of the quilt?

I am exciting to get started quilting on this one. I hope Kendra

and Eric

will enjoy this quilt as much as I have enjoyed designing and piecing it.

I did decide to add the 1 inch outside border. Mostly so that I could use the black and white polka dot fabric for the binding.

Becca, it is your job to remind me to put a label on the quilt.

I'm linking with Quilting by the River's Linky Party Tuesday. Hop on over.

Design Wall Monday

I had a very productive weekend. I spent the majority of the weekend working on the Tiger Lily quilt. It is now a flimsy. More about that later.

Today is Design Wall Monday over at Judy's. Be sure to drop by and leave comments. We all love to read comments.

I'm not sure if you remember this project.

It is the Fat Quarter Star BOM provided by Moose on the Porch. If you recall, I picked out my fabrics and then decided I didn't want to have to make the decision of which fabrics to use for each block. So I put them in bags (by color) and pulled out the number of fabrics I needed for each block.

This worked until I got to the outside borders. The blocks were all 12 1/2 inch blocks. The final instructions were to add a 1 1/2 border of the background fabric and a 1 1/2 inch colored border around each block. When I got to that step, I just cut strips from the fabrics I had enough of and then matched that fabric to the blocks.

All blocks are made now, but I still have to sew the outside border on some of the blocks. I want the quilt to be larger, so I think I'll add 3 or 4 borders. But tonight, it is back to the Tiger Lily Quilt.

Obstacles get in the Way!

I was making such good progress on the Tiger Lily Quilt this week. Until Friday night, that is. I have decided to embroidery a bible quote in the borders and was working on the second border when I ran out of the orange applique thread I was using.

So, I had to make a trip to the city (an hour drive).

Well, like most of you that have to drive to get things, you hate to make an hours trip and only get one thing. So, my list is growing. And before I know it, three fourths of the day was gone.

I really needed to clean house. I am letting the clutter build up in the bedroom. And dust. The sheets need washed but Larry will be sleeping all day, so I'll have to do that on Sunday. So I guess Saturday will be a day of running errands and then sewing. And Sunday will be a day of cleaning. Oops, I have my days turned around don't I. Sunday is supposed to be the day of rest.

WIP's -- A Lot to Do

Kelsey beware! You won't like this post. lol

I plan to begin cleaning my sewing room tonight, so I thought I would make a list of all of my WIP's. So here goes:

Actually, I never started this one. It is a panel I purchased about two years ago. The colors will go beautifully in my bathroom and I have birdhouses in there. So, it will be perfect. I was just trying to figure out a way to add a block border or something. Any ideas?

This one is from one of Judy Laquidara's books. I started making it for Becca. Then I got caught up on the double wedding ring quilt. Then I made here the "I'm Blushing" quilt for her birthday. I'm trying to talk her into taking it over and finishing it. We'll see.

Still a flimsy. It is only about 3 feet square. I think I need to finish it for a Valentine's table topper.

Snowflakes are Falling. Another Natalia Bonner quilt. This one just needs a couple of borders on the top and then quilted.

I think this wall hanging is all quilted and just needs trimmed and the border added. Maybe I'll finish it before fall.

Fat Quarter Star BOM from Moose on the Porch.  Let's see. I have 8 blocks completed and they have already released the last one. So I am 4 behind. Maybe I can get them cut out while my machine is embroidering on the border of the Tiger Lily Quilt.

This is probably my newest WIP, except for the Tiger Lily quilt. I only need the stars and leaves appliqued in this top border.

This is my oldest WIP. I did not even touch it all winter. There were only a few cold, cold nights to sit in front of the fire this winter. That is when I did most of my hand quilting last winter. I will finish it one day in the future.

This star quilt along from Amanda at Crazy Mom Quilts is probably my oldest flimsy. It just needs a border or two added. I even have the backing fabric with it. Not sure why it is still sitting around.

Maybe I'll number them and draw a number to which one gets finished first.

Boy, that is quite a list. I hope I got all of them. It will be interesting to see what I uncover as I clean. Maybe I'll try to get them all finished before the end of the year.

Oh, but I have so many other quilts dancing around in my head!

Weekend Update & Design Wall Monday

Talk about time flying. I was busy all weekend, which means I didn't have a lot of down time. But that is my fault because I do schedule my time.

I had a nice walk after work on Friday and then I hit the sewing room. I got one side of applique border finished.

I spent most of the morning on Saturday prepping the face of the stairs to paint. I had country blue on the wall and stair faces and have decided to go back to a neutral color. It is almost white--just a bit of tint.

That afternoon I went shopping for a few hours so that blew a bit of time. When I got home Saturday evening, I did sew a little more and completed the second side applique border.

And that is my Design Wall Monday.

I did finish the stairs on Sunday and with Larry's help almost got the downstairs hallway and den area walls kilzed so I can paint them this week or next weekend. They were a bright purple and they are also going back to a neutral color.

I finally got to sit down and sew around 7 p.m. I was able to finish the rest of the applique for the two remaining side borders.  I haven't sewed them together yet.

Head over to Judy's for more Design Wall Monday.

Tiger Lily Update

I worked on the Tiger Lily quilt last night and almost every evening during this past week. Now I have the first two borders sewn on.

I am working on the next border, which has some applique. So it will take a little bit to prep it and get the applique completed. I was hoping to complete the top this weekend. But, I'm not sure if that will happen.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!
