Design Wall Monday

The applique border for one side of the double wedding ring quilt is completed. I just had to lay it out so I could see how it is going to look.

If things go as I plan and I don't back out, I will be making another one of these in the future. . .  and I have already decided that the borders would be made in sections and then sewn together after the applique is completed. The whole piece that I am using is just too big. It gets twisted in the machine and then wrinkles and I'm afraid I may be stretching the fabric some. But, it is working--just a little cumbersome.

Each quilt I make is a learning experience. I have definitely learned a lot on this one.  I also feel I will be very satisfied with the results.

If you haven't dropped by Judy's Patchwork Times today, be sure to do so.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!

  7. So pretty, what a masterpiece. I learn on every quilt large or small, easy or difficult. That's why I love it so much!

  11. WOW, that is awesome. Probably not something I would make, but something I definitely admire! I have never done applique (but want to...)and have never done a WR, both seem beyond my patience... looking good!

  13. I came to the same conclusion after my first applique quilt. Done in sections is so much easier than wrangling the whole quilt through the arm of the machine. Your quilt continues to amaze me.

  14. I love watching this progress!! I can tell you that I have done tops in sections before although they were by hand. Then when I put all the sections together - I just appliqued over the last pieces. Right now I'm doing my first quilt as you go quilt - with a method that I'm just winging myself LOL! Those tops just get too big to handle!

  15. It is even more beautiful each addition that you show! Hope you have nicely toned upper arms after all the twisting and pulling under the needle :)
