Where did Saturday go?

Saturday . . .

I planned to clean to house for a couple of hours and then get back to work on the applique for the 2nd snowflake pillow. But, it took me a lot longer to clean my sewing room than I thought it would. After all, it was quite a mess.

I finally got to turn on Christmas movies (on You Tube) and sew around 5 p.m. After an hour, I have only made it about half way around the block.

I forgot to get some red backing fabric when I went to Wal-mart today. So I'll have to do that tomorrow so I can finish them and put them on the couch.

Oh the heat & dryness!!!

We actually got a reprieve from the over 100 temperatures today. I was able to sit outside comfortably until about 1 o'clock. But I live on top of a ridge with a breeze most of the time.

I finished the stocking quilt but it is hard to stage a good picture when your yard looks like this. 

We haven't had rain in I don't know how long.

I am pleased with the way this quilt turned out. The only thing I would change is that I would cross hatch in the stocking area instead of stippling. Now I can't wait to use it. I may just have to put it on a bed or over the couch so I can pretend its cold outside.

And with the pillow I made. I plan for the quilt to go on the wall above the bed and the pillow on the bed.

And the backing.

Isn't it fun!!! I have a lot of novelty Christmas fabric from 5 or 6 years ago. I don't really want to make a quilt top out of it but it is great for backs. But if I ever want to get rid of it, I will need to make some tops from it.

Oh geez! I just saw on the new where Sweetwater, TN has opened a Redneck Resort. 

Don't think I could do it. Actually, people do this stuff around here all of the time. Just not me!!! I must say, the man will probably end up wealthy.

Saturday Sewing

Oh my, how the weekends do fly by!

Now I am seriously regretting not getting much sewing completed this summer. But, we often cannot control our health. But, the next time I have that feeling of fatigue, I'll know to check my iron.

Anyway, on Friday evening, Kelsey, one of my sisters, and myself went to see "Breaking Dawn".  We went to eat at Panara Bread before the movie. I was a little disappointed because they didn't have one of their salad specials going right now. They are always so good.

The movie was very good. We laughed in parts and cried at other parts. It followed the book pretty closely. And it ended about where I thought it would.

I had planned to come home and sew for a few hours after the movie but decided to get groceries instead. So I didn't get home until 11:30 and I was exhausted.

On the sewing front, I was able to finish the applique on the Poinsettia Quilt, add the final border, and sandwich the quilt.  I was even able to get the stitch in the ditch completed late last night.

The sandwiched quilt laid in the middle of my floor for several hours while I made this pillow.

I still need to add a buttonhole and a large red button to the pillow. I got the idea from My Backyard Eden website. Then I decided I had seen these pillow covers from Amazing Designs with flaps and buttons and wanted to make it like that.  I have the words embroidered for the other two pillows but have not made the covers yet. I used a regular bed pillow for this one (it was the size I wanted and only $6), but will use small pillow inserts for the other two. I had thought about using contrasting Christmas fabric for the flaps on the two smaller pillows but have decided to make them all white so I can use them any time of the year.

Today, my sisters and mother are coming to work on a quilt for one of my nieces. My mother makes quilts for everyone for a wedding present. But this nieces picked out a beautiful patters with about 20 small pieces. I may be exaggerating because I have only seen the pattern once. But my mom looked at it and decided she didn't want to tackle it. So my sister (niece's mother) was going to sew it and my mom hand quilt it.

Since the wedding is in April and my sister only has one block made, I decided to host a sewing day at my house to get it on the way. Well, I'm rambling. So hopefully, I'll remember pictures and have an update later.

A Pillow is Born

If you read my previous post, you will know I was on the look out for this fabric . . .

Karen was nice enough to e-mail All About My Kaleidoscope Quilt Shop to ask what fabric line this was.  She found out it was called "Quiltgate".  I know there were a couple of you that wanted to know what it was. I hope this helps you.

The reason I was looking for this fabric line was because I fell in love with this pillow and wanted to make one just like it.

Well, I decided to just look through my scraps and use what I had. So this morning, I proceeded to choose fabric and draw out the letters. This is what I came up with.

I was in such a hurry to get it all together that I forgot to add the extra embellishments, like the hearts and embroidery. And now I realize I forgot the lace also. So I may have to make another one later on and give this one to one of the kids.

But for now, it has a home on this bench that my dad made me years ago.
