One of those days . . .

and they seem to be coming around more often.

Yep, the green plaid should be where the beige floral is above it. Luckily, it was in the corner of the quilt and I was able to rip it all out and put it in correctly.

Had to stitch it by hand. Not the best job. But, it will do. And after I quilted it, it is not really noticeable.

But, those mistakes seem to be coming around more and more often. I'm much too young for this.

A productive Saturday

We were able to get the bulk of Becca's quilt top put together yesterday. She had to leave to go to a wedding so I finished the long sashing pieces but realized I had counted wrong and was short fabric for the top and bottom sashing. So when she stopped back by on her way home I got that fabric from her. My homework it to get those two sashings sewn on.

Her homework for the week is to cut a bunch of 2 1/2 inch squares for one of the borders. She is getting excited because it is so close to being finished. She is going to get one of her grandmother's to hand quilt it for her.

Even though I helped a little bit, she did most of the cutting and sewing herself. It looks great and you would never know it's her first quilt.

I had a productive week also. I started this quilt top on Sunday, Sept. 9. And I completely finished it yesterday. It took awhile but the applique takes awhile to do.

I have this a piece of Christmas print to use on the back. I think I am going to do simple cross hatch in the nine patch area and some type of meandering on the wide outside border.

I am still handquilting for a while each evening on the star quilt. It is so going, but I am going to love it when it is finished. I think I have 10 block left and a 4 inch border. It is going to be flowers on a stem so it will especially be slow going.

Drop by Judy's for Design Wall Monday.

Quilting Marathon

I spent the weekend in a quilting marathon. Actually I can spend just about any weekend I want in a quilting marathon.

Craig and Becca visited on Sunday and we worked on Becca's quilt.

We now have all of the blocks made and are ready to add the sashing between the blocks.

My homework is to square the blocks.   Her homework is to cut the sashing strips.  They are coming down for a wedding on Saturday and plan to arrive early to spend some time sewing. Maybe we can get some of the sashing sewed on.

I have been working on another Christmas quilt. I have a shelf full of Christmas fabric that I got on clearance several years ago. And it needs to be used. More on that later.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting.

A quiet Sunday.

Spent part of the day at my parent's house celebrating my mom's birthday. Lots of family and laughter.

The wall hanging is hung on the kitchen wall.

As you can see, I have very high ceilings. This quilt looks pretty small on this wall.

On to the next project. It is using these 3 1/2 inch checkerboard squares. I just love them.

I finished

the star wall hanging, binding, and all.

And the back . . .

I was getting ready to hang it in the kitchen when I realized that I had not washed out the quilting lines. So in the washer it went.

The weather today has been absolutely wonderful.  I don't think I have heard the air conditioner come on all day. I forget how much better we feel when it is cool outside.

Hand Quilting Challenge

I have not been on the computer very much during the past couple of week.s That is good because it gives me a lot more time for reading or sewing.

Through Karen's post, I learned that Bonnie Hunter is challenging us to do at least an hour or hand stitching each day.  I'm glad I decided during the past couple of months that I really enjoy hand quilting. Is it a phase? I'm not sure because I have never had the patience for it in the past. In fact, I started two or three quilts and had my mom finish them. The last quilt I hand quilted took me about 10 years because I kept losing interest.

But, I have been doing a lot of hand quilting during the past week. I actually have two projects going at once. Probably not a good idea.

So I am going to take Bonnie up on her challenge.

Where do I quilt? In the middle of the living room close to the TV (see the old box tv in the background--It just keeps on going and going and going).

What do I plan to work on during the month of September? This wall hanging that is about 3/4 of the way finished. It will go on my red kitchen wall.

And hopefully finish this star quilt.

I have been working on it off and on for a couple of months now. This is what made me fall in love with hand quilting. I just love the way the quilting is showing up on this off white fabric.

So, now is the time to get off of the couch and computer and get busy.

Happy snipping,  stitching, and quilting!
