I decided to

take the star wall hanging off the lap hoop and put it on my floor frame.

I visited the chiropractor yesterday because of a pull in my neck. He really worked me over and said he was more worried about my neck than anything else. I have a feeling that I was quilting at an odd angle when I was using the lap hoop.

So, this leads me to a question for all of you hand quilters. How far off of the floor is your quilting frame? And, where does the frame come to your body? I mean are your elbows at a 45 degree angle of what?

I feel like mine may be a little high and am wondering if I may need to have Larry cut it off for me.

I am very thankful for the rain we have received.

It's a flimsy

I sat down last night and was able to get the "Smokey Mountain Stars" blocks sewn together.

The pattern calls for two borders--a 2 inch inner border and a 5 inch outer border. I have the fabric chosen for the outside border but not sure what I am going to do for the inner border.

I walked into the sewing room this evening and decided my feet hurt--turned back around and went to the rocker to watch netflix.

I am watching the series "McLeod's Daughter". I found myself looking at the shirts the characters are wearing thinking they would make great quilt fabric. Too funny.

Well, I'm off to hand quilt. I'm linking to Ester for WOW

Design Wall Monday

I accomplished a lot yesterday. I spent the morning exercsing, going to church, and reading a book. I spent the entire afternoon and evening sewing on the scrappy shirt quilt.

I have about half of it sewed together and all of the blocks laid out.

This pattern is a free pattern of Bonnie Hunter's called Smoky Mountain Stars.

Sit down with a cup of coffee and check out Design Wall Monday over at Judy's.

Oh My,

It is a busy time.

School is up and running. PTO meeting tonight so it was a long day.

I have been working on several things in the quilt world but just haven't taken the time to take pictures. I am slowly progressing on the star quilt I guess I have about 2 1/2 rows out of 5 completed.

I have decided to hand quilt the shirt scrap wall hanging. I had a small hoop and decided to see if it would work. It is working fine, even if it is an embroidery hoop. I almost have one block completed.

I have started on another quilt and hope I am not disappointed. I am making this quilt of Bonnie Hunter's. The reason I say, "I hope I am not disappointed" is that I put some of the block units on the design wall and was not thrilled with how it looked. I think it is because I am chain piecing and had too much of the green plaid up on the wall.

But, I am almost sure it will turn out great.

Well, all lesson plans have to be turned in by 3 o'clock on Friday afternoon so I should be able to leave school at a decent time and begin sewing or quilting early and make a long evening of it.

I did it.

Well, I finished the flimsy, that is.

I just love the way this turned out. Now, I have to decide if I want to hurry to get it finished or quilt it by hand.

I didn't realize

that it takes so long to cut and sew 60 flying geese. Maybe I am just a slow sewer.

I have all 60 sewn together, but I only have one side border completed. Hopefully I will get around to doing the rest tomorrow. It would be great to get this wall hanging completed before going back to school on Monday.

This is the wall hanging I am making from the mens shirts I purchased at "The Community Outreach".  I have been thinking about a quilt for my son's bedroom and I do believe I will purchase a few more shirts and make one from shirting fabric.

I will say that it was confusing figuring out how to cut scraps for this quilt. Maybe it was the way the directions were written. I finally just chose fabric for each block and cut out what I needed.

Most of Bonnie Hunter's quilt patterns are made for using scraps so I think I will choose one of her patterns for a large quilt.

Busy, Busy, Busy

and getting very little accomplished. Or it seems that way.

School starts on the 20th. The summer has flown by.

I went to school for a few hours yesterday and the only thing I accomplished was getting some decorations laminated. I was interrupted way too many times. :) I was planning to get up and out of the house by 7 this morning--didn't happen. Forgot to turn on the alarm clock.

On the quilting front, I have made some headway on this wall hanging.

It is over halfway machine quilted. All of the floral blocks are quilted and some of the star blocks. I am just doing free motion stitch in the ditch on those. And believe me--I need practice on that.

And I have 2 rows completed on the star quilt I am hand quilting. I have two more blocks partially quilted on another row.

That is 10 blocks completed out of 25. I have decided that this is the pattern that is taking me a long time.  You know the continuous hearts around the Irish Chain block.

The continuous curves seem to take so much more time than the straight lines.

Well, that's a catch up in a nutshell.

A Little Project

Do you ever just need a quick little project just so you can say you did somethin? That's how I feel sometimes.

So last night I put together this little table runner. It went together very quickly. All I need to do is add the binding.

Another project from "Tis the Season".   Love this book. If you click on the book in this link, you will be able to see almost all of the projects in this book.

I just came across the picture and it brought a smile to my face. That was a great carefree vacation to Gulf Shores. I really hope we can all go somewhere together next summer.  I am aiming for The Great Smoky Mountains. Pull the 5th wheel and stay in the park. I guess I better start planning it. The park probably fills up quickly.

Tonight I am back hand quilting while I watch the Olympics.

Happy snipping, stitching, and quilting!
